Be Back Shortly

I’m on a emotional and spiritual vacation. But of course, I’m still in Singapore. That just means this blog will be taking a seasonal break for the moment (like how all good TV series do).

Once I’m reinvigorated, words and pictures will naturally flow (: In the meanwhile, you can browse through my shameful archives of posts from the past. Or follow me on Twitter, where I’m slightly more active in posting various genres of one-liners.

And to save yourself the effort of checking back every now and then to this site for updates, simply follow my feed on RSS. If you don’t know what or how to work RSS, Google will help you.

Signing off for now (:

Wash Your Hands Too

Hygiene video score!

But apparently according to my physiotheraphy friend, washing your hands would be too late if you’re already infected. But it’s never too late for personal hygiene anyway.

Jesus and I

Some men grow up in churches and are led to believe that they have placed their faith in Jesus for salvation while they still lacked a personal relationship with Jesus. I sometimes wonder if I myself fall under that category. A lot have been asked lately about Lordship decisions. Do I live with a transformed mind? Do I live a regenerated life in Jesus Christ? Or am I just an empty soul filled with enough Bible knowledge to last a debate with a Jehovah Witness?

I’m not contented with living just like that. I know there’s a whole lot more. I worry for my future but afterall it’s a pursuit of God with the end foreseeable and possible. It’s choosing to live each day with and in Jesus. It’s knowing that I’ve been cruxified with Christ and that I no longer live; it is Christ who lives in me! It’s not struggling to come to terms with getting there, but acknowledging that I’m already there. It’s like we’re doing something that has already been done, and we’re crying all over it. That’s not how it’s supposed to be. How can we share what Jesus said if we don’t know Jesus himself, talk about reaching God if we don’t pray to Him, or follow the Spirit if we don’t let it guide us?

The truth is, I want to know Jesus more and more each day, even if it’s hard pressed on all sides. And I want to choose to live everyday and every moment with Him.

Bangkok 2009 Day 4 & 5

Follow the Bangkok 2009 Series
Bangkok 2009 Day 1
Bangkok 2009 Day 2
Bangkok 20009 Day 3

For some reason or another, I always have problems trying to finish a series of blog posts. This one included. I think I have some form of commitment issues. But nonetheless, it’s here! We didn’t take a lot of photos; no major “cam-whoring” or “cam-whores” in our midst. So here are the measely few photographs from the last two days of our trip. After a while, Bangkok looks pretty much the same. Crystal was right, 5 days was too much. But 5 days provided enough rest so that it didn’t become a full on shopping trip.

Us in Bangkoks MRT. We dont know that lady.

Us in Bangkok's MRT. We don't know that lady.

This is Bangkok’s version of our MRT. They use almost exactly the same system as we had in the 1990’s if you still remembered those flexible cards with different designs that we would slot into the gantries. One cool thing is that everyday at 6pm, all the Thais would remain still in the station while the Thai National Anthem would play faintly on the background. It was quite an incredible sight, I thought I was in some Big Freeze or something. The Thais are really patriotic. We were wondering if ever one day Singapore enforces this rigiment, would anyone bother to pay their respects.

On that same day, we tried going for Muay thai at night. It costs a THB$1000 just for a basic ticket. What a rip off! Being stingy Singaporeans, obviously we didn’t pay for it. Instead, we just stood outside to take a photo memorabilia. Haha.

We met Vic for some Muay Thai action that didnt happen.

A Believer’s Guide to Defending the Christian Faith Against Jehovah Witnesses

Wow. That’s a really lengthy title. If we shorten it, we’ll get “ABGDCF Against Jehovah Witnesses”. Anyway, it doesn’t really matter. This post isn’t targeted at the “witnesses” per se, but rather at the cult movement itself. “Love the sinner, hate the sin.”

The thing about JW’s is that they pop out of nowhere when you least expect them. I’ve encountered a couple of them in Melbourne during their house visitations (as they call it), and they are really nice people. Just that they’ve gotten a lot of things wrong. And so when I least expect them to be active in a conservative and secular (especially how the AWARE fiasco has labelled Singapore to be) nation such as Singapore, one lady knocked on my door at 11:30AM whilst I’m my pyjamas. When that happens, chances are you’re caught way offguard.

Of course, there was a lengthy but civil discussion about beliefs and all, but I decided to cut it short cos it was just going no where. I didn’t have time to attend her weekly “bible studies”, and although she said she was open to my opinions she refused to check out the website that I suggested.

And this incident struck me about how prepared we as Christian Believers are. During the discussion she pointed out to me about how many “Christians” didn’t know their Scriptures, and I could only sadly agree with her. It’s quite tragic. It was a lesson for me to guard against being slack with my discipline and passion for studying the Bible in it’s entirety and Truth.

So here is a link to a site that I believe is worth it’s weight in gold. This “guide” isn’t my creation, but I really do think that CARM has done a great job on their part of research and has several “how to’s” in response to certain JW counter arguments. They’ve been very thorough in their articles covering almost every nook and cranny so be sure to read the articles when you have time.

I wish to reiterate that this post is not against individuals, but rather against the cult movement. During my discussion with the JW, there were strong urges for me to humiliate her and become extremely incorrigible because who likes someone who tries to come tearing your belief system down? I have to admit that I was wrong in feeling that way, and guilty as well. But Peter did mention to give an account of our faith with gentleness and respect. And it was duly so, glory to God! Sometimes, I really think that if we can approach JWs or Mormons with an intention to help them see the Light rather than slamming our Bibles in their faces, it could be a very wonderful thing. But one thing though, you have to commend them for their courage and determination in sharing their beliefs. If only we who claim to be Christians were at least half of them in their vigour.
