I think God has a funny way of reminding me about His faithfulness, He literally takes me back in time and puts me through trying situations again, and again, and again.
There was a good reason why I don’t take public bus in my area to get home- because they never do. However today’s circumstances meant that my chauffeur mum can’t take me home after a haircut (which i realised that the shop was closed only after i got there).
More than 3 years ago when I first arrived in Melbourne I decided to be a smart guy and take the bus home. Never did I expect that number one, bus stops here in the suburbs have no shelters- they are marked with a pole, number two, they don’t stop everywhere as Singapore buses do. After 10 minutes into the journey with only myself left in the vehicle, I was found to be at the last stop of who-knows-where, and the bus driver chased me off.
I was a young naive and frail 17 year old with no mobile phone or any source of directional help. I was terribly lost. I remembered how God in ‘what-seemed-to-be’ a divine intervention (i swear this is true) actually provided directions home for me. In a sky filled with cirrus clouds spaced an empty blue in the shape of an arrow pointing downwards to a place I hallucinate to be my home. I followed in the arrow’s direction and true enough, miraculously, I got home safe, sound and awed.
Today’s bus trip though similar in route had a twist. I remembered the entire event. I said the same thing to the bus driver, and he said almost the same thing to me.
‘This is the last stop. So you got to where you’re going?’‘(what the. not again.) Uh, no… But it’s ok. I’ll walk’
‘I can take you 5 metres back if you want.’
‘Oh, uh, then can you take me to Purinuan St?’
‘Yea sure, just wait here, I’ll take you there’
Something’s different about today. Maybe it was the morning songs playing in my ears.
