Hello Sir,
Before we continue, please have a read of this article. It’s about being dispensable, influential and humble. It looks like something that I have written for you ahead of time without knowing. Haha. I’ve used football analogies for your familiarity.
In our earlier email we mentioned about delegating and empowering. Being dispensable and building something sustainable are the other 2 ingredients vital in this mix. I hope you start to see how the pieces start to fall into place.
In a quick turnover ministry like OCF, being dispensable is important because you know that the ministry and its systems can run without you. Theoretically, it should run without you, God runs the entire show. Therefore your job is to delegate and empower, in doing so, you train leaders to think the same way (to become dispensable) and thus creating a sustainable ministry. The idea here is to create a sustainable system for making disciples.

While there are benefits of having leaders in for the long haul in the same ministry, it also has its cons. A ministry is like a pipe. People and leaders are like water flowing though it. If the water stays too long in the pipe, it will turn bad. There is always the need for refreshment. The current has to be flowing all the time. If old leaders don’t make way for the new, you will lose the hot blooded young talents and the old guards will die off without anyone taking over.
My challenge to you is to create something sustainable from the very moment you begin your term. It’s not so much about leaving a legacy behind (tho’ that would be nice), but it is about teaching others to make disciples who will disciple (Matthew 28:18-20, 2 Tim 2:2).
